So I decided it would be fun to pick up another new sport/hobby and start longboarding.
Not thrilled with the usual board graphics choices, I was thrilled to see one of the local shops has a longboard painting workshop in a couple weeks so I walked down there from the synth cave this afternoon to register and get the lay of the land.
A couple blocks into my hike, a couple of teenaged skateboarders came up to me at an intersection and asked if I wanna buy some weed.
Now, I admire the entrepreneurial spirit there, but unfortunately for them the answer was no, and even if I wanted weed, I wouldn’t buy it off of strangers offering it on a street corner, I’d call one of my stoner friends and ask for a recommendation off of them.
Weed, like most businesses, is a word-of-mouth enterprise.
Anyway, back to the longboard thing. I think I have a good idea for a cartoon pin-up boy to match my tattoos.
And since I was thinking that longboarding would be a fun way to get around, that somehow put the old Beach Boys track “I Get Around” into my head, which reminded me of joking with my best friend about how that must be the theme song for a rather slutty ex of mine. And so I think I have my design down, a little more on the cartoon side than on the pin-up side: a cartoon nude guy holding a skateboard over his nether regions singing that song.
Unless I change my mind later, but either way I’ll post a pic once it’s done.
In the meantime I have a cheap-ass longboard from Sportchek to practise on and I’ve been practising a bit here in the synth cave and getting my balance figured out. And at the end of the night when most of the other bands here have gone home, I’ll head upstairs to a long-ish hallway with low carpeting to practise some more before hitting the great outdoors.
Now… to spend a few hours remixing “Deep End” for the next maQLu’s Full Moon Mixtape podcast.
